SPLAT is not going anywhere.

Re: SPLAT is not going anywhere.
He loves the club, that's apparent. And he's still only 21. My feeling is that he'll stick around for a while and see if we can push on.

Re: SPLAT is not going anywhere.
I think it's no coincidence the club are using him for a lot more media stuff now. Obviously post match interviews as he is the captain on the pitch but he seems to be involved a lot with the community side of things.
Gold and Sullivan need to give him whatever he wants, we can pay the top wages so give him 100k or more a week.

Re: SPLAT is not going anywhere.
You can throw as much money at him as you like, but eventually he’ll want to win trophies and play Champions League football. It will be a natural progression for him as one of the best young players in the world.

I'd love to have your confidence.

Unfortunately:
He supports Chelsea
Tubs likes him
Chelsea have bucket loads of cash

I'd be surprised (and happy) if he's here after next summer.

Re: Rice is not going anywhere.
I always feel that, even with their current Italian boss Lumpalardi at the helm, Chelsea are only ever a handful of bad results away from a change of manager. Whatever about him supporting them, Rice has left them once already and certainly wouldn’t fancy sitting on the bench while another big foreign signing takes his place.

Barring a miracle, he won’t be here forever but, if he is still here in two or three years, we will have done very well in that time.

£70m says otherwise.

Would love to keep hold of him, but you have to question his loyalty after the Ireland/England fiasco

Re: Rice is not going anywhere.
Hardly a fiasco was offered the opportunity to play some football so did.

He's English and no doubt always intended to play for England given the opportunity.

But honestly staying with us isn't a case of loyalty if we stay as we are, unfortunately as an ambitious footballer it would be stupidity

Re: Rice is not going anywhere.
If he's serious about his international career, then he's going to need regular football. Playing regularly as club captain is a huge bonus.

If we have a stonking season and some how via a miracle finish in the top 6, I reckon he'll stay.

To us it's a game - to him it's a job.

He'll go wherever his chosen career path takes him, and he'll do it with dignity and respect, of that I'm sure.

Re: Rice is not going anywhere.
Block - agreed. But I would say it's looking increasingly unlikely that we'll need a miracle to finish top 6. Things are looking remarkably good, at least on the pitch. The team spirit is incredible and Rice is clearly loving it. He should be given a new contract asap and be made club captain for next season - no point having a bit-part player as captain any more.

Check out his interview at the end of the Behind the Scenes v Leeds video on the official site.

He certainly looks to be in his element here. I reckon he will stay here for a decent amount of time.

fraser 11:45 Tue Dec 15
Re: Rice is not going anywhere.
Exile - Sorry I disagree would definitely be close to a miracle if we finish top six.

Do you see us finishing above any of Liverpool, City, Man U, Ys, Chelsea, Leicester? It will be a miracle.

Alwaysaniron 11:48 Tue Dec 15
Re: Rice is not going anywhere.
DC has become a very big fish in a relatively mediocre sized pond and right now he's loving it. If we can manage to make it into a European spot then I think he'll hang on here for a season or two longer. In that time we need to renegotiate his contract again and when we do sell him and eventually his desire for success will dictate that we do, then let's at least sell him to Madrid/Barca or Bayern where he will become a world beater and not piss us off each week having to watch him play for the fucking Chavs.

the exile 11:54 Tue Dec 15
Re: Rice is not going anywhere.
fraser - I can see a possibility of finishing above either Man U or Leicester. They are both inconsistent. The point about us is that we are improving at least as quickly as any other side in the PL. But of course it depends on many factors, including injuries.

El Scorchio 11:58 Tue Dec 15
Re: Rice is not going anywhere.
The longer he stays, the higher the price we get for him. He's still improving. He seems very happy at the moment outwardly and is doing fantastic.

But I think it's inevitable he leaves at some point and it wouldn't surprise me if a top, top club bigger than the likes of Chelsea comes in for him.

Re: Rice is not going anywhere.
Great article in The Times last week shows he is a Hammer through and through which is why we are building a team around him. We should be telling the likes of lampard and manu to p##s off!

He is highly rated outside the club as well as inside, a potential England captain as well as being ready to take over as Hammers captain so anything less than £100m would be outrageous bearing in mind what some players have moved for eg Maguire.

Darlo Debs 12:06 Tue Dec 15
Re: Rice is not going anywhere.
Jaympee i was just wondering what Man U would be prepared to pay for him.given how much better he is than Maguire. Thing is a player like Rice will be sought after for a reason, would our board spend the money we would get for him on a decent replacement, if one can be found?
